As we enjoy our club contests we are looking ahead to the seven Area Contests and then...The All London Division B Contests.  This year the London Finals of the International Speech and Evaluation Contests will be held on SATURDAY 24 April in West London SW6 (Earls Court/West Brompton).  Put this date in your diary now!

We will have workshops in the morning.  A short break for lunch followed by the contests in the afternoon.  More information will follow shortly.

The London winners will go on to compete in the District 71 UK & Ireland Finals in Sligo 14-16 May (as part of the District Land of Heart's Desire Conference Read more below).  The Conference includes keynote speaker Darren LaCroix World Champion of Public Speaking.  If you missed it the first time watch his video:

The winner of the UK & Ireland International Speech Contest will go on to compete at the Toastmasters International Convention Palm Desert, California 11-14 August 2010.

We are now meeting at our new venue: Lodge Room 17, Freemasons' Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5AZ.  A fabulous venue close to Covent Garden Station.  We held our contests there recently.  Results below. Hope you will come and visit us at 7.10am one Thursday morning.

Hear Jeffrey Archer and Network at the UK Speechwriters' Guild

On Friday 12 March 2010, author Jeffrey Archer will give  a talk at a UK Speechwriters' Guild event. The subject...his experience as a public speaker and a write.

It will take place from 1-3pm in the lecture theatre at the back of the The Crosse Keys, 9 Gracechurch Street, (opposite Leadenhall Market) EC3V 0DR. Jeffrey Archer has wide experience of the world of politics and publishing. There will be opportunities for networking over a light buffet lunch.

Cost £25 to non-members, £20 to e-members and £15 to standard members. Places are limited.

Voice – Visual and Audible Feedback - loudspeakers and voice displayed on screen to see frequencies and volume while tuning up the voice for maximum impact on you and on others. This has a powerful training effect in only minutes.

WIBF Speakers Silver Gavel - Celebrating 30 Years

Some Toastmasters clubs ring a bell, others just kick you off the stage, at Women in Banking and Finance Speakers - City (WIBFS-C), we bang a wooden gavel after the red card or light to encourage you to end your speech and stop speaking.

WIBFS-C started just over 4 years ago. Our 'parent' Women in Banking and Finance (WIBF) the networking group started many years before that and in 2010 they are celebrating 30 successful years of empowering women. In honour of this occassion they presented to WIBFS-C a Silver Gavel to be awarded to the winner of the International Speech contest.

Winner of the Evaluation contest held on the same night went to Mary-Rose Fison.

Learn to Speak Louder without SHOUTING!

On Wednesday 24 March 2010 - COME AND LEARN HOW TO SPEAK LOUDER WITHOUT SHOUTING OR LOSING THE MELODY IN YOUR VOICE!

The ACCA Breakfast Club which meets up at Deloitte’s near Chancery Lane each 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month will be running its first ever workshop!

With just over 20 members now we are planning to charter in April 2010. We have been around since November 2009.

This session will be very interactive and lead by Dele Ogun a lawyer and well known member of Early Bird Speakers. The workshop is aimed at newer Toastmasters who feel they need to improve the projection of their voice.

Places are limited and only open to toastmaster members. The session will begin 07.15 and finish 08.45. If you would like to attend contact Monica for further information by email stating which club you belong to.
