Welcome back all. I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas and New year.
One of the greatest skills we can learn is how to persuade and influence people. At work, we may need to convince our colleagues or persuade our boss. At home and with friends, being able to influence is an equally valuable skill. (If anyone could tell me how to persuade Mrs Fred that ‘staying out for just one more beer’ is ok, I would be very grateful!)
At Toastmasters, we learn about persuasion in the 9th speech of the Competent Communicator manual – Persuade with Power. And while this is just one speech, it is a foundational skill that we use through many of our speeches.
On Monday 26th January, Division B, together with London Cardinals, are pleased to announce that they will be hosting a workshop called The Power of Persuasion. This will be run by our 2 times UK and Ireland International Speech Champion and current European Junior Chamber of Commerce Speaker of the Year, Simon Bucknall.
This will be a highly interactive look at the art and science of persuasion. Simon will help us to understand how to get people’s interest in our point of view. Together, we will also learn new ideas and tips on how to ‘close the deal’.
It does not matter whether you have reached speech 9 or not, this session will give you plenty of thoughts that you will be able to bring to your future Toastmasters speeches as well as to your dealings in the broader world.
The workshop is being held at the Thistle Westminster Hotel, 49 Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1W 0QT. (for those steeped in these things it is at the London Corinthians normal venue). The event will run from 7.15 to 9.30pm.
A map to the event is below:
To help cover the cost of the venue there will be a small charge of £5. Some tickets have already been sold but there are about 65 still left. Click through below to buy yours:
I will certainly be there to hopefully learn the magic words for Mrs Fred! Hopefully, I will see you there too…
