Roll up, Roll up for John Cremer and The Maydays!

It's exciting...our Improvisionation event with John Cremer and the Maydays is next Wednesday 2nd September.  6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start, at the London Irish Centre, NW1.

I happened to meet award winning voice coach Frances Parkes yesterday, together with a trainee barrister and a marketing executive all of whom said they would be coming along.  This event will be great for Toastmasters who want to improve their impromptu speaking and make more use of humour in speeches.  It will also benefit anyone who communicates at work - giving presentations, handling questions etc. etc.  Of course these skills are useful in our personal lives as well.

Nearly 100 people have booked so far...luckily the room is big enough for more people to benefit.  So please continue to spread the word and encourage other people to come too.  The more the merrier!

An Artist's View of Speakers' Corner

The artist Clare Shenstone observed a speaker at Speakers' Corner, London, for years. Something about his performance and passion resonated with her.

I thought members of Toastmasters public speaking clubs might be interested in a free exhibition of her impressions showing until 13th September 2009...especially as Broadgate Speakers has an event at Speakers' Corner on 6th September. (More info here)

New Club Launch! Broadgate 2. Volunteers and committee members wanted!

Wanting to give more speeches or improve your leadership skills?   

Helping launch a new club is the best way to develop your leadership skills as well as being an opportunity to speak at a second club while it is being launched.

Broadgate Speakers is launching a brand new club "Broadgate 2" just between Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations.  We will meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays.  The inaugural meeting is on Tuesday 1st September in the upstairs private function room of the Red Lion Pub, 1 Eldon Street, EC2M 7LS. The club meets at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm prompt start.

Support is required filling committee roles (including the President), mentoring and generally helping set the club up and inspire a completely new set of guests to become committed toastmasters.

Even if you are new to toastmasters, you are welcome to volunteer for a role.  There will be experienced Toastmaster available to help you discuss your options to lead the club to success.

Table Topics Workshop and Contest 15th September

A date for your diary.  City Speakers has the one and only John Campbell running a Table Topics workshop before the Table Topics competition on Tuesday 15th September.

Speakers' Corner Event 6th September 2009

CALLING ALL ADRENALINE LOVERS

Ever thought you could cut it as a politician? What about speaking to crowds? Or dealing with hecklers? Well now here’s your chance. Broadgate Speakers are once again hosting their annual Table Topics afternoon at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park.

Following the successful events in 2007 and 2008, this year's *FREE* happening will take place on Sunday the 6th of September at 1:45pm for a 2:00pm start.

Table Topics in the open air will not only improve your improvisational skills. It will also improve your voice projection. And most importantly, dealing with hecklers will develop your assertiveness skills! There'll be something for everyone with the following 4 Rounds of Topics: Light hearted, Random, Current Affairs, and for those who really like it tough, The Stinger! This event is open to members of all clubs, their friends, and people of all experience levels.

There will be a picnic and/or a meal after (depending on weather) so please bring along suitable refreshments!. Speakers Corner can be found in the North East part of Hyde Park, nearest tube is Marble Arch. Table Topics Workshop with Andrew Klimaytys

On Wednesday 2nd September 2009 Riverside Communicators Toastmasters public speaking club holds a Table Topics/impromptu speaking workshop led by Andrew Klimaytys. Andrew is a two time winner of the London Division B Table Topics contest and entertains his club regularly with his quick thinking and wit.

Come along to build your confidence in speaking off the cuff and gain great tips on how to tackle tricky, unexpected questions.

Riverside's President John Craddock extends a warm welcome to any Toastmasters or guests who would like to come along, join in, learn AND have fun.

West London Speakers win the Socrates Cup

On Tuesday 18th August 2009 the function room at the Hop Poles, Hammersmith was packed for the annual debate and table topics contest between London Athenians and sister club West London Speakers - known as The Socrates Cup.

Pictured WLS President Jenny Teuten accepts the cup from District 71 PR Officer, Freddie Daniells. After two years in which the cup has been won by London Athenians Jenny relished the sweetness of victory! Impromptu and prepared public speaking skills were much in evidence throughout the evening.

Among many guests from other clubs were Trojan Speaker's President Kojo OHene and Luke Syzrmer President of Polish Your Polish. Both seemed to like the idea of more debating so...who knows we may have other debate events for you to attend in the coming months!
