From Peter van der Sloot, President London Athenians
London Athenians would like to thank the highly esteemed Freddie Daniells for the Masterclass on Speeches to Change Your World which he delivered to our members and guests on Tuesday.
In typical energetic Freddie fashion we covered a lot! From Aristotle's views on rhetoric, through storytelling techniques, to secret's divulged by Freddie's neighbour's dog, we were treated to a fun and inspirational presentation that included excerpts from Martin Luther King's " I Had A Dream " speech and even George W Bush's delivery!
Inspiration, delivery and form were all covered with audience interaction and participation. We were encouraged not to seek perfection, but to seek connection with our audience when public speaking. There were also very useful tips on constructing a story; using the classic storyline "shape", beginning with our hero on par, descending into desperate circumstances and then, with a bumpy ascent, reaching the satisfactory conclusion. We discovered the three classic components of a good speech: Pathos, logos and ethos and how to balance their proportions for motivational or persuasive speeches. Not only great fun, but an extremely useful evening. Thank you Freddie.
