From Lynne Cantor (Area 47 Governor) and Julia Kowalle, (WIBFS-C President)
Last Wednesday, 31st March, Area 47 held their first International Speech and Evaluation Contests, hosted by WIBF Speakers-City, in the RBS buidling in Bishopsgate.
The meeting room was filled with members from the four competing clubs; Excalibur, Northern Lights, London Communicators and WIBF Speakers-City, other Toastmasters clubs and many guests.
Contestants pictured from left: Anna Parton, Ivy Nwankwo, Maurice Noa (mystery speaker), David Jones, Lynne Cantor (Area 47 Governor), Andrew Chuks, Jilly Shaul, David Lennon, Mary Rose Fison, Sue Mannering.
Everyone was smiling, in a good mood and waiting eagerly for what the evening would bring. Expectations were high and we were not disappointed. The speeches were brilliantly presented and the subjects raised gave the audience food for thought, from; how to explain “death” to a child; the revelation that God is in all of us; and mind over matter when it comes to fitness. The 4 contestants were Jilly Shaul, Ivy Nwankwo, Andrew Chuks and Susan Mannering. CONGRATULATIONS go to the winner, Andrew Chuks and 2nd place Jilly Shaul.
For the Evaluation Contest Maurice Noa, from Canary Wharf Communicators, gave his intriguing mystery speech entitled “Dancing with your mind and thinking with your body”. It was an inspiring speech and gave the evaluators a bit of a challenge. The contestant participants; David Lennon, Anna Parton, David Jones and Mary-Rose Fison, presented four interesting and encouraging evaluations. CONGRATULATIONS go to the winner David Jones and 2nd place Mary-Rose Fison.
We wish both Andrew and David all the very best of luck at the All London Division B contest on Saturday 24th April. I hope you will join us there to support the contestants.
A big THANK YOU goes to WIBFS-C for hosting, the Contest Chair, Julia Kowalle, as well as all the organisers and functionary roles on the night, it could not have happened without you. It was a very inspiring and motivating evening. Well done and thank you.
