From Iain Duthie, Tube Talk
Members of Tube Talk were on track...taking advice and grabbing the opportunity for stage time!
On 13 May their stage was in Dublin at the pre-conference joint meeting of Clontarf Marino and Tube Talk. New member Joyce Lutwama gave her Number 2 speech in front of an audience of 140 including the current International Director Poh Kim Siong, past International President Ted Corcoran, 2001 World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix and various luminaries from District 71.
Seeing it as an opportunity to exercise public speaking in front of like-minded Toastmasters, Joyce was inspired by watching Darren LaCroix in action, “it taught me the important principal of persistence in pursuing my dream to be the best I can be in public speaking.” “Tube Talk’s motto for this year is ‘Stepping out of your comfort zone’ and Joyce did herself proud at the meeting”, said club President Ola Aralepo. “How many toastmasters are privileged to receive feedback on their number two speech from both a world champion speaker, and International Director and a past International President?”
When asked what she gained from her experience in Dublin, Joyce said “It made me discover a potential within me I had never imagined before. The experienced gave me a renewed commitment to deliver my next level speeches.”
So wherever you are in your Toastmasters journey, getting stage time and stepping out of your comfort zone will help you unlock a new dimension of potential and confidence in public speaking, and help reach your destination. I didn’t say that, Joyce did and her journey is well under way.
During the meeting Dick Dixon performed admirably as Toastmaster and Ola Aralepo delivered a rousing General Evaluation.
