From Hilary Briggs, London Division B Governor
During the recent UK & Ireland District Conference in Sligo, while some of the 20 or so members attending from London were busy dancing and enjoying the famous “craic”, one member had his eye on something very different – the ash forecast. Yes, it was not looking good for our return flights on Sunday, so our superhero Greg Ros (President St Paul’s Speakers, attending his first District conference), got to work…
After tirelessly exploring a multitude of travel options during the wee hours, Greg was knocking on our doors at the crack of dawn on Sunday (well about 7:30…) to brief us on the best strategy. He then requisitioned half the hotel reception to set up his emergency travel planning operation, ably assisted by Iain Duthie (Tube Talk), and successfully masterminded our trip home.
There were fun and games en route (just missed out on the Guinness Book of Records award for the most people on one Travel Lodge room…) before we finally made it back to Euston on the Monday lunchtime – which will no doubt be recounted in speeches across the Division in months to come, as of course there are no problems, only speech opportunities…
It was my pleasure to present Greg with a Toastmasters International Appreciation Award at St Paul’s Speakers last week – “For Outstanding and Dedicated Services” for his amazing work on behalf of Division B. He’s already on the case for the Dublin Conference (12-14 Nov 2010) – now there’s dedication!
