14 contestants had fun competing and entertaining a large audience (50 +) at the Regional Tall Tales Contest hosted by Marlow Orators on Friday 3 June 2011. The stories demonstrated how much action can be packed into 3-5 minutes! No surprise that Tall Tales contests are important events for Toastmasters club worldwide.
The winner was Danny Callaghan (London Cardinals). Second Place Sonia Aste (Riverside Communicators) and Third Place Phil Sheahan (Chiltern Speakers). Picture centre front: Sonia, Danny, Philip (thanks to Martin Berry for the photo).
I asked Danny how he had found meeting the challenge of a tall tale. He said "Being in the tall tales contest was a great motivator to try and construct something that had elements of the truth and elements of imagination and yet coherent enough for listeners to follow. But even if I hadn't been taking part it would have been great to hear the other excellent tales." Watch Danny's tale tall. 5 entertaining minutes with an excellent twist!
