Amazing Workshops

In conjunction with the Toastmasters UK & Ireland (District 71) Executive we are putting on a brilliant programme of events.  Darren LaCroix, the 2001 World Champion, is coming as the keynote speaker and to do a couple of enlightening workshops.   The great line up of achievers also includes Andrew Brammer, past District 71 Champion, and Ted Corcoran, 2003-4 International President of Toastmasters International. Others are still to be announced.  So what a line up!

Great Speakers

There will be the eagerly awaited UK & Ireland Finals of the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest when the cream of speakers from all the Divisions in Ireland and the U.K. will go head to head for the honours. The winner of the International Speech Contest will go on to represent District 71 at the next stage of the contest at the 79th Annual Toastmasters International Convention to be held in Palm Desert, California, 11-14 August 2010.

Freddie Daniells is a public speaking and presentation skills coach and trainer. He works with a variety of different clients, coaching senior executives and training teenagers. He also currently sits as one of four executive members responsible for Toastmasters success within Great Britain and Ireland, having input to all areas of the organisations development. Specifically, he is responsible for Public Relations within those geographies. He is the Immediate Past Division Governor, responsible for London and is a member of Holborn Speakers and Excalibur Speakers.

Elected in 1997, Evan has a long‐standing campaigning record in anti‐discrimination, free speech and civil liberties issues, and is the Lib Dem science spokesperson. Join him as he reveals how he uses persuasive speech to convince, influence and drive change. What’s the key to speaking with conviction? What are the techniques, tips and tricks?

How to remember your speeches, talks and presentations 10th Feb 2010

Speech Evaluation Workshop - Bloomsbury Speakers - 25 January 2010

London’s newest Toastmasters International club – Bloomsbury Speakers - is gaining momentum and invites you to be a part of the fun and friendly vibe at out club’s first ever learning event – an Evaluation/Feedback Workshop on the Monday 25^th January 2010! 6.30pm for prompt 6.45pm start.

 

Purpose: High quality evaluations are critical to learning and improving our speaking skills. The Evaluation Workshop will be a practical opportunity to listen to two speeches and two impromptu speeches and to give feedback by evaluating them using the Toastmaster method. 

Event Structure: There will be an introduction to evaluation/feedback basics for a manual speech and an advanced speech. We will work in groups to share ideas and do group evaluations for both speeches. We will also see 2 expert evaluators in action. Finally the evaluations will be evaluated on what was done well and how it could be improved.

Awesome Facilitators: We are delighted to have 2 of our district’s leading lights facilitating the event for us – our Area Governor, Christopher Hall and the District 71 PR Officer, Freddie Daniells.

Other Information: Places are limited and booking will be done on a 1^st come 1^st served basis. 

There will be a £5 charge for the evening - great value for money with high calibre and experienced Toastmasters such as Christopher and Freddie!

Hear Darren LaCroix - World Champion of Public Speaking

Toastmasters District 71 (UK & Ireland) is proud to announce that 2001 World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix will be the keynote speaker at the Land of Heart's Desire Conference 14-16 May 2010. The Conference includes the UK & Ireland finals of the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest, as well as educational workshops and other activities including a golf tournament.

The Conference is being held in Sligo, Ireland.  A beautiful setting and a lovely place to go for a long weekend or extended holiday.  You can read more about the conference programme and the venue on the d71 website. Cooper Cup for Storytelling

On Wednesday 20th January 2010 Riverside Communicators is holding it's first  Cooper Cup for Storytelling contest. We hope you'll join us!

Many of you know Jean Cooper who was a stalwart member of Riverside and a Toastmaster who contributed to clubs across ondon. After celebrating her 80th birthday with us she moved back to Sheffield where she is now a member of a new club.

Among Jean's many talents is her ability to tell stories - whether in prepared speeches or off the cuff in Table Topics.  Because of this Riverside as decided to hold an annual club contest in her name and help us to emulate her storytelling prowess!

Speech Preparation Workshop with UK & Ireland Champion

SPEECH PREPARATION WORKSHOP: "How to Write and Deliver a Winning Speech".

London Corinthians' first workshop of 2010 will be run by the 2009 UK & Ireland International Speech Champion Gareth McHale. Gareth will take the audience through his process of writing, refining and rehearsing a speech to contest level, including a performance of his District 71 winning speech.

This is a great learning opportunity for those planning to enter contests in the future, particularly International speech contests that will be happening at all our clubs in a few weeks time. Whilst the workshop does include a few pointers about contests it is applicable to any Toastmaster since the process of writing a speech is largely common to all applications.
