Club Officer Training starts today. Learn, share, network!

Twice a year your London Toastmasters council runs evenings of (2 hour) club officer training to: share ideas, improve our knowledge of toastmasters and help us to make the most of the leadership opportunities which committee membership offers.  If you are currently on your club committee (including of a pre-charter club) or you are thinking of joining the committee we would love to see you at one of the sessions.  What do you need to do? Tell your club President/Area Governor that you want to be added to the guest list for one the dates below and come along!

There are three training sessions starting tonight.  The training starts promptly at 6.30pm and ends at 8.30pm.

Tues 7 February at Ernst & Young, 1 More London Place, SE1 2AF (close  to London Bridge station)

Wed 15 February at State Street, 20 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf,  E14 5HJ

Mon 20 February at Man Investments Ltd, Riverbank House, 2 Swan Lane, City of London, EC4R 3TN (entrance on Upper Thames Street).

"Ideally, each member of your Committee should attend one of the Club Officer Training sessions and at least 4 qualifying members (President, VPE, Membership Secretary, Secretary, VPPR, Treasurer, Sergeant-at Arms) of your Committee should attend and thereby contribute to your Distinguished Club Program.

If you are a ‘Pre-Chartered’ club, I encourage you to attend , as there is a lot of really useful information which is applicable to you now and when you are Chartered.

Introduce your friends to Toastmasters at Brentwood Speakers 24 January

Brentwood Speakers Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of Each month - 7pm for a prompt 7.30pm start.

At our next meeting 24th of January we have party theme - free tea, coffee, biscuits, cake and anything else....

Please take the opportunity to encourage everyone you know who lives or works in the area and who needs Toastmasters to join us for the evening. Everybody and anybody will be welcome!

Come along to these meetings, network, listen to very varied, short speeches, learn to speak in public, and have fun at the same time!

There are so many opportunities and requirements for us speak in public whether at work, play or helping a party along! Conquer your fear of addressing audiences, whilst making new friends and benefiting from their expertise, as well. It won’t be long before they’ll be listening and learning from you …no matter how shy you are, or what your level of confidence is at present.

Hone your Judging Skills at our workshop on 30 January

On Monday 30th January please join us for what (I believe!) is the first London Division B Judging Workshop led by past UK & Ireland District Governor Teresa Dukes.

Our aim is to have at least 1-2 members from every club in London to attend so that we can achieve consistent and high-quality judging at all our contests, particularly our International Speech Contests and Evaluation Contests which we'll be holding in a few weeks time.

Our contests are a great opportunity for members to step out of their comfort zones and to practice their public speaking skills in a different and exciting context. To be fair to our contestants and to make sure the best performance wins it is therefore important that judges are unbiased and objective in their assessment. The interactive workshop will focus on explaining how to overcome unconscious biases and provide tips and tricks on how to go about observing the speakers, using the judging forms and assessing the participants against the judging criteria. Judging is a key part of making your upcoming contests a success so please make sure that your club sends at least 1 delegate.

We are fortunate that the workshop will be delivered by Teresa Dukes, and promises to be educational and entertaining, and held at :

Build Your Thinking Power – Workshop at London Corinthians

George Jerjian, a long standing member of London Corinthians, Past President and winner of the Area 6 Humorous Speech contest last year, will deliver a workshop on 'Mental Flexibility', a skill that is essential for all of us at Toastmasters.

This workshop is part of the Toastmasters International programme and George delivers it as a project for his Advanced Communicator Gold award. As a writer and a speaker, George appreciates the power of mental flexibility and will guide us through the workshop agenda using his varied experience in this area.

I hope you all had a great Christmas break and a Happy New Year! With the holidays over and routine settling in again it is time to plan for some exciting workshops and events which will happen in Division B over the next months.

I am very excited to announce that we will run a judging workshop on Monday 30th January to prepare for the upcoming contest season! Evaluation Workshop led by Chris Boden - Tues 24 January 2012

Well Holborn Speakers is pleased to announce that we are holding an evaluation workshop at our club on the 4th Tuesday of this month, 24th January. The aim of this workshop is to equip you with proven tips and techniques for helping you to deliver helpful and inspiring evaluations.

Running this workshop will be Chris Boden. For those that know him, he needs no introduction, but for those that don't: Chris has been a member of Toastmasters since 2007 and has very quickly developed into a highly effective speech evaluator. He is the current UK and Ireland Evaluation Contest Champion, having won the final in May of 2011.

So whether you’re chasing that best evaluator ribbon at your club or aiming for the District Championship, this seminar from Chris can help you get there. In a session packed with tips Chris will show you:

• How to give the speaker the greatest benefit;

Storytelling Workshop Wednesday 11 January 7.30pm

Toastmasters Storytelling Opportunity - Saturday 17 December

Fellow Toastmasters are you undertaking Advanced  Storytelling or Interpretive Reading Manual? Would you like to deliver a speech project and have it evaluated at Thamesmead Library between 11.00 and 12.00 on Saturday December 17th? If so , we are meeting at 10.30 at Abbey Wood Station ( zone 4) and you are very welcome to come along. You can even come and simply evaluate if you wish. Our stories will be told in the Adult section of the library.
