This report just in from from Dave Sellman, man in charge of last weeks Area 6 contest (ie the Area Governor):
What type of radio station would you like to start?
Following Radio 1's 40th Birthday celebrations on Sunday, this was the theme which greeted the table topics contestants at the Area 6 Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest on 3 rd October at the fabulous London Corinthians Thistle Hotel Westminster. This venue will also host the Division B contest on Monday 15th October. Between them, the contestants covered just about every form of music, news, chat and humour that has ever flown across the airwaves in an exhilarating succession of speeches.
This followed on from an equally marvelous humorous speech contest where we learned about being the wrong kind of Doctor, the real truth about traveling across London, how to kick an addiction to hair dye and who really is the ultimate role model (the answer was our very own Ralph Smedley).
Congratulations to all the contestants for putting on such a great show, but particularly to Jonathon Palmer and Ian Millen, both of London Corinthians, who will go on to represent Area 6 at the Division contest.
Such contests are really not to be missed, and there are still two more great opportunities to see some fabulous toastmasters in contest action. The Area 34 contest in WC1 is on 11th October (see details here) and the Division B contest finals are on 15th October at the Thistle Westminster Hotel (see details here).
Many thanks Dave for that.
Those folks in Area 6 will go to any length to get their photo taken with the wonderful Kim Horner (centre), President of London Corinthians! On the left is Jonathon and on the right is Ian.
