Area 31 Contest results

The Area contests are now coming to an end – last night was Area 6 and tonight is the Area 34. Reports will follow. I have to say that in these troubled times they are a most welcome tonic for all concerned.

Last Tuesday, I managed to get to Canary Wharf for the Area 31 contest. It was a fabulous evening, marshalled wonderfully by the ever so glamorous Catherine Desson, President of Citi Criers, as Contest Chair.

And despite the carnage of the financial sector over 35 eager folks crammed into Citigroups offices to hear the Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests.

First up was the Humorous Speech contest. We had really great speeches but, as always, there can only be one winner. The results were:

1st Clive Broadbent of Canary Wharf Communicators

2nd Raya Brody of WIBF Canary Wharf

3rd Dave Brooks of Speakeasy@CreditSuisse

The Table Topics Contest question was “Mastercard have had a very successful campaign showing that some things are priceless. What do you consider priceless?”

Again there was a lot of humour, and some really well structured table topics. The winners were:

1st Saskia Wiriadidjaja of Citi Criers

2nd Clive Broadbent of Canary Wharf Communicators

3rd Raya Brody of WIBF Canary Wharf

It was truly amazing to see Saskia win the Table Topics contest. This was only her 4th Table Topic ever! She was so excited and will, I am sure, do her club and Area proud at the Division finals.

Oooh…did I just mention the Division finals??

Just a reminder, there are still a few tickets (down to the last 27 when I checked) available for Division B’s Humorous Speech and Table Topics contest on October 22nd. Details and ticket purchasing can all be done here:
