What makes a speech worth hearing?
Is it the subject matter...or is it the eloquence of the speaker?
Have you ever heard speeches and wonder why they were made? Have you ever delivered a speech yourself and received only polite applause...or less?
Barack Obama's speeches are now played repeatedly on YouTube and elsewhere. A single speech took him from obscure Senator to United States President in just four years. Have you considered why?
Can you make a similar impact with the speeches that you make?
You'll hear some of the answers on Wednesday 25th February, at the Thistle Westminster Hotel in Victoria, when Phillip Khan-Panni will deliver his Masterclass, How to Make a Speech Worth Hearing.
You will hear how to:
- Connect with your listeners
- Deserve their attention
- Make your message relevant
- Understand the difference between benefits and pain
- Sharpen up speeches that you have prepared
- Improve the way you sound
- Distinguish between Action and Applause
- Reach the hearts of your hearers
Phillip has won countless speech and evaluation contests in Toastmasters and is now a professional speaker and trainer. He will identify the six most common obstacles and eight essentials in public speaking and give you the tools to fine tune your techniques.
It will be an interactive session that could transform your approach to speech making and inspire you to discover the difference that YOU can make.
This Masterclass is aimed at people of all levels of experience.
About Phillip
By way of background, Phillip is a highly successful professional speaker, author, trainer and coach, and a Co-Founder of the Professional Speakers Association.
A Co-Founder of the Professional Speakers Association, he is District 71’s only triple champion, International Inter-District Champion and the UK’s first and only World Silver Medallist in public speaking.
He has published seven books on communication skills, including Getting Your Point Across, Blank Page to First Draft in 15 Minutes, and Stand and Deliver: Leave them Stirred not Shaken. Another of his books is Communicating Across Cultures, and he runs training programmes in communication skills and coping with cultural differences in business.
His business background is in Sales, Advertising and Direct Marketing, including eight years as Senior Copywriter at Readers Digest. On one national newspaper, he tripled classified advertising revenue in a single year. He has been Managing Director of a magazine publisher and of a Creative Agency in Direct Marketing. He is a past branch chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
In short, we can all learn a lot from Phillip. This Masterclass is particularly well timed given that we are about to enter the International Speech Contest season. Many of his tips will improve our speeches ahead of this contest.

I have already booked my tickets! I hope to see you there.
PS These events are not limited to Toastmasters. If you have work colleagues or friends who might be interested in learning more about public speaking, these events are great showcases for the art (and by implication for Toastmasters). Feel free to invite them too. I would love to have to move this event to a larger room because of large numbers of guests. I am sure that some would likely want to come to our clubs after!
