Starting New Clubs - The Leadership Opportunities Thurs 23 September 2010

Interactive workshop led by Hilary Briggs DTM, Immediate Past Division B Governor and founder Early Bird Speakers

There’s a saying “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.”  It can apply to us as individuals, as well as to Toastmasters International as a whole. Starting a New Club offers the chance to stretch your leadership skills to new levels, as well as helping to spread the benefits of Toastmasters to more people.

Just as we have a supportive environment to help develop our speaking skills, taking the step of founding a club provides a safe space to work on your Leadership skills too. This workshop will feature input from those who’ve taken this brave step in the last 12 months, including the founders or Presidents from Bloomsbury Speakers, 1^st London Toastmasters and Covent Garden Speakers, and help extract their learnings from the journey so far.

The aims are to:

·         Inspire confidence so more members take up the challenge and start a New Club

·         Share best practice - and discuss some of the typical issues that arise – such as how to build a team to help make it happen

·         Draw out the leadership opportunities and their applications in the wider world

So whether you have aspirations to push your leadership potential to the limit, want to share the benefits you’ve gained from Toastmasters with friends and colleagues, or simply want to find out more about what’s involved, book your place now!

New World Champion of Public Speaking

At the Toastmasters International Convention this month a new World Champion was crowned - David Henderson from District 55. Giving a speech entitled "The Aviators", David, an attorney from San Antonio, Texas spoke in front of an audience of 1600 people from 113 countries.

"Presenting his speech dressed in an aviator helmet, goggles, bomber jacket and long “Snoopy” scarf, Henderson brought to life his heartfelt story of loving and then losing a cherished childhood friend. He demonstrated his emotional story about coping with loss by literally falling on the stage." Read the full TMI press release here...

Table Topics at Manor Park - Join us on Saturday 4 September

Join us for open air table topics on Saturday 4 September at 1.00pm in Manor Park, Lewisham...perhaps followed by some shopping in the nearby farmers market or coffee in the cafe!

Please join us for a fun afternoon, stretch yourself by speaking to a new audience, support Lewisham Speakers and encourage people to learn about Toastmasters. We will be meeting at Lochaber Hall Manor Lane, SE13 5QL at 12.45 before going to the Park.

Lewisham Speakers and Area 35 want to encourage other clubs and members of the public to come along and experience the adrenaline of speaking in public, by joining in an open forum Table Topics session. As we all know it's a great exercise to help you think on your feet and face the challenge of finding the correct words at short notice, and often discovering that we are all better at this than we think. At the very least, the audience will be entertained!

Table Topics Workshop Wed 8 September 2010

Riverside Communicators invites you to a free table topics/impromptu speaking workshop on Wednesday 8 September 2010, 7.15pm for prompt 7.30 pm start. Finish: 9.30 pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone - not just those taking part in the upcoming table topics contests. You'll learn and practice table topics in a session delivered by Andrew Klimaytys, ACG and a London Division B Table Topics Champion. Andrew is an experienced speaker and trainer. Former President of Riverside Communicators,  Area Governor 2004-05 and Division B Governor 2005-06. He is currently working toward the accolade of Distinguished Toastmaster.

So why don't you join us for a great learning and practising session. If you can come along please register your interest by emailing [email protected]. by Friday 3 September so we have an idea of how many people are likely to attend.

The workshop will take place at the Twickenham Club (ground floor), 7 Church Street, Twickenham, Middlesex TW1 3NJ. This is close to our usual venue so you can use the carpark at York House. It's few minutes walk from Twickenham station, and buses from Richmond underground station stop close by. MAP

Tonight! Great Workshop in Central London

Enjoy training. How to create great workshops; and have fun doing it.  Led by Alan Donegan

From the guy who has written courses for Google and Vodaphone and runs workshops all over the country.

Now he is coming to Division B to help us learn or improve on writing and giving workshops.

As is usual for a Division B workshop it will be very interactive and you will need to come armed with ideas on workshops you would like to run in the future. We will be creating the workshop right there on the night!

We will look at workshop construction, exercises, advanced learning strategies and give you everything you need to build and run your first workshop.

Kitchen closes at 8.00pm, but they are willing to take orders prior to kitchen closure and set it out following finish of workshop. I would imagine that this refers to cold food. If you have the chance, you could eat before workshop. Arrive, place your order, pay and it will be there.

The ACCA Breakfast club is holding a Table Topics Festival on Wednesday 25 August 2010, Start: 07.15am Finish: 08.45am

Thinking of entering into the table topic competition at your club? Need to get some last minute tips? Toastmasters from other clubs would be very welcome as TT Masters, TT Evaluators or to swell the crowd of potential speakers. It will be a load of fun!
