London Club Officer Training

This Wednesday 2nd February Division B will be holding the second of the Club Officer Training sessions.  The venue for this session is Ernst & Young, 1 More London Place, London, SE1 2AF.   The nearest underground station is London Bridge. 
Here are just some of the subjects that will be covered in what will be a packed agenda –
 -      Retaining the members of your club
-       Planning for your successor
-       Important steps in making your club Distinguished
-       Club contests – what you must know
 There will be a 45 minute break out session during which you will have the opportunity to attend one of the following
 -       Lifting The Lid on D71 - Whether you have no experience of the D71 website, or you are a hardened veteran of this freely available club management tool, this workshop is suitable for you.  Split into an instructional presentation followed by a Q&A clinic, we hope to provide you answers to all of those burning questions you may have.  Our aim is to take you on a whirlwind tour of the system's key functionality, explore some of the new features hot off the press, and give you use cases for how all club officers can make the most out of D71.
 -       PR – Ideas to increase your membership, club website, social media, who are you aiming at?
-       Keys to Being a Brilliant Leader - Creating a vision, what makes a good communicator, motivating your club.
The final session of Club Officer Training will be held on Monday 7th February at Credit Suisse, One Cabot Square, E14 4QJ. 
We will start each session of Club Officer Training at 7pm and finish at 9pm.

New London Toastmasters Club Launch 9 February 2011

We are very excited to announce that a new club called Phoenix Speakers has been "birthed" from London Cardinals.

Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

Only 100 days to go until the District 71 Spring ‘Odyssey’ Conference!

The countdown to the UK & Ireland conference, in Windsor, has well and truly started as club International Speech and Evaluation Contests get underway.

The educational programme for the conference is being polished up by District Executive and I’m very much looking forward to hearing what our lead Workshop Presenter, Jim Key World Champion of Public Speaking, is going to reveal on Friday 6th and Sunday 8th May.

I hear that the International President of Toastmasters, Pat Johnson, is busy working on her Keynote presentation for Saturday 7th May, plus...the final list of workshop leaders for the morning of Saturday 7th will be released soon. Watch this space!

Accompanied by two fantastic UK & Ireland contest finals, the Spring Odyssey has an itinerary bursting with possibilities for learning and leadership, all intended to entertain, educate and enjoy.

Speaking opportunity as auctioneer for charity event

If a fellow Toastmaster knows of an auctioneer who may wish to become involved and help us with this important event, or you are an auctioneer yourself and would be willing to participate, we will be delighted to hear from you.  Alternatively, if you are an advanced speaker and would like to add auctioneering as another string to your bow of public speaking, we will be equally happy to hear from you!
 
Further details:
Following the flooding disaster in Pakistan last summer, the staff and students of Walthamstow School for Girls launched a major fund raising appeal in September 2010. 
Our aim is to establish links with a community affected by the flooding and to raise money to help in the rebuilding of a secondary school, either damaged or destroyed by the floods.
According to UNICEF statistics, 9,000 schools were destroyed, leaving thousands of children who have also lost their homes without an education and the security of attending school.
To date we have collected £5,654 through various fund raising activities, ranging from a Winter Bazaar, to a sponsored swim by staff in sub-zero temperatures in an outdoor swimming pool in December!
Our next major event is an auction of items and services to be held in late March.  The success of our auction will be largely dependent upon our securing the services of an auctioneer who will be prepared to lead on the auction.  (We have deliberately not set a date in March to allow flexibility for the auctioneer’s commitments.)

London Club Officer Training

The dates for the first round of Club Officer Training in 2011 are fast approaching. 

For those unfamiliar with this ritual, it is one way that the Division B Council helps pass around tips and thoughts that help your clubs committees do an even better job and plan the second half of the toastmaster year.  It is also a way of earning points for your club on the Distinguished Club Program.

There will be an opportunity to attend one of three sessions that have been organised.
