London: Anglo/Irish Toastmasters Meeting with Jim Key World Champion

A special meeting! A special treat!  Thursday 5th May 2011 meet International President Pat Johnson, hear World Champion of Public Speaking Jim Key’s 30 minute talk AND enjoy the traditional pre-conference fun of an Anglo-Irish Toastmasters meeting...In central London.

Also attending will be Teresa Dukes, District 71, UK & Ireland Governor, Freddie Daniells, Lieutenant Governor Marketing, Conference Director Iain Duthie and other luminaries!

The meeting, led by Toastmaster Andy Pape, President of Northern Lights, will include: two speeches, two evaluations, table topics, general evaluation, plus a short speech by our International President and the talk by our 2003 World Champion.

London Toastmasters Area 45 Contest results

On Tuesday 22 March, 50 toastmasters and guests  graced Templar House at Holborn with their presence for the area 45 international speech and evaluation contest. The energy in the room was lively and buzzing as we were treated to exceptional speeches of a very high standard by the winners and runners up of the club contests from Early Bird Speakers, Grosvenor Square Speakers and Berkeley Square Speakers.

The evening was smoothly compered by Liz Hobbs and Jacqueline Purcell, respective contest chairs for the international speech and evaluation segments. The mystery speaker was Taha Undre, President of Whitehall Speakers who treated the audience to a speech celebrating human kindness on the transport system,and which was done justice by the evaluation contestants.

Ultimately, there could only be one winner in each category and the results are:

London Toastmasters Area 34 Contest Results

On Thursday 24 March the Area 34 International Speech contest and Speech Evaluation contest finals were held in the fabulous Wolfson Lecture theatre at London Business School.

The respective winners and representatives from five clubs rose to the occasion as they challenged for the opportunity to represent Area 34 in the forthcoming London Division B finals.

Wonderfully managing proceedings in the first half was contest chair Euphemia Redwood-Sawyer in the International Speech. The contestants pictured from left were: Ratan Lele (Holborn Speakers), Ken Adjei (City of London Toastmasters), Raj Jain (Bloomsbury Speakers), John Nyaruwa (Tube Talk), and Shane Snow (LBS Public Speaking Club).

Speech subjects ranged from personal space, Cicero and even stern yet loving grandmothers!

Returning after a short break the second half Ian Macfie was Speech Evaluation contest chair. Mystery Speaker Imants Krezin delivered the contest target speech entitled "Can I help you?" with a story which drew in the audience with moments of intrigue, amazement and a call to action for all. 

It was going to be a challenge for the assembled Evaluation speakers.Pictured from left: Paul Rocks (City of London), Glen Long (Bloomsbury Speakers), Imants Krezins,  Rosalind Oakley (Holborn Speakers), Philip Korsah (Tube Talk), Shane Snow (LBS). However all the evaluators magnificently delivered a fine sequence of structured and constructive feedback in the traditional Toastmasters format. 

Naturally all club winners did a tremendous job in representing their clubs in the Area contests. It was certainly no easy task to cast the all important vote by the contest judges.

After the ballots were counted the Chief Judge Andy O'Sullivan returned with the results which were:

1st place winner in the Area 34 International Speech contest was Raj Jain. 2nd place winner was Ken Adjei.

1st place winner in the Speech Evaluation contest was Rosalind Oakley. 2nd place winner, Glen Long .

Congratulations to both Raj and Rosalind and we warmly wish them both the very best of luck as they advance to  the Division B finals at the Royal Veterinary College on Saturday 9th March. Click HERE to grab your seat!

London Toastmasters Area 29 - Contest Results

What a brilliant night on Wednesday 23 March - my only regret being that not everyone could get through to the next round.  The standard of speaking in both contests was extremely high - in my humble opinion every contestant was a winner!

An audience of 60 people crammed St Aidan's Hall, Ealing and provided a great atmosphere. The Target Speaker gave us just what we had hoped, a lively, funny speech which was difficult to evaluate and our contest chair guided us calmly though the evening.  Trojans did a splendid job with the organisation and food.  Thank you to very one who took a role. It is certainly a night that will stay in our memory.

Brentwood Speakers Club Launch Tuesday 22nd March.

Tuesday the 22 March 2011, will be the first meeting of Brentwood Speakers Club, a new Toastmasters International club. Venue: Poplars Lodge, Poplars Drive, BRENTWOOD, Essex CM13 1BA.  The club will be meeting every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month 7pm for 7.30pm start. Everybody will be welcome!
