The second round of the 2012 Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests are now underway.
Start your week with the Area 58 contests on Monday 1 October. You'll see the winners from: 1st London Toastmasters, Broadgate Speakers, City of London Speakers, MLP London Bridge Speakers, Woodford Green Speakers competing for the Area trophies. The Area 52 Contest was held on Thursday 27 September with contestants representing Berkeley Square Speakers, Grosvenor Square Speakers, Imperial College Speakers and Polish Your Polish.
After a thrilling and exciting contest to a packed audience the winner of the Humorous Speech contest was Andrew Stead (Berkeley Square Speakers) and Table Topics was Gosia Gorna (Polish Your Polish).
Pictured are the winners holding their trophies along with with the Chief Judge Simon Cooper, Division B Governor Jakub Pawłowski, Area 52 Govenor Ash Sethi. Our Contest Chair was Jill Segal, President Grosvenor Square Speakers, pictured below.
The winners will now go forward to represent the Area 52 in the Division B contest, to be held on the 20th October 2012 at the Fitzrovia Community Centre, John Astor House, Foley Street, W1.

What a great evening! We can definitely say that the launch of the first French Speaking Toastmasters club in London was a success! Over 30 attended!
The meeting started with an introduction from our elated Founder President, Raphael Kopel and was stunningly led by Andrew Stead as Toastmaster for the soiree.
Treasurer Graeme Philips then gave the club a glimpse of our administrative situation. Two prepared speeches followed. An Icebreaker by Agata Polisiewicz, VP Membership and an advanced inspirational speech ‘Experience le Francais’ from Rafael Tselikas, VP Public Relations. Skilled Evaluators were Joy McElroy and Graeme Phillips.
Jeremy Robinson organized the hilarious Table Topics Session. Six volunteers, both French and other nationals accepted the challenge and went on stage to speak about topics such as holidays in France, French wine, and the humorous differences between French usage and dialect.
Our Timekeeper was the wonderful Kerstin Lelubre, VP Education already and new to Toastmasters. Great to welcome her!
At the end of the meeting, we had the luxury of receiving a general evaluation by the Club Mentor, Andrew P Bennett DTM.
It could not have been a real French evening without wine, and as such all on-stage participants received a mini bottle of French wine as a thank you present!
There was a great deal of laughter and a really joyful atmosphere. It is important to remember that this new club is not only for French people, but for anyone who wants to follow the Toastmasters Educational Programme in French. We look forward to seeing you on Monday October 8th for a second exciting session of Experience French! There will be French cheese during the break – mmm!!!

The Area 6 Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest went with flying colours last night!
London Olympians arguably "The Friendliest Speakers Club in London" were the most fantastic hosts led cheerfully by their president Carrick Whitney.
Creme de la creme of the speakers from four excellent Area 6 clubs London Olympians, London Cardinals, London Corinthians and Phoenix Speakers were competing for the area trophy with the audience left aching from laughter and thoroughly entertained.
The contest was chaired by ever charming and professional Distinguished Toastmaster Gilly Cutts while yet another accomplished Distinguished Toastmaster Carol West handled the Chief Judge role with great aplomb.

Experience French Toastmasters - Tonight! From Andrew P Bennett DTM
Monday 24th September 2012 sees the launching of 'Experience French' London's first ever french speaking Toastmasters Club.
Do come along at 18.15 for 18.30 start - City Temple Conference Centre, Holborn Viaduct.
The meeting will be Presided by Founder President Raphael Kopel. Toastmaster Andrew Stead ( Berkeley Square Speakers) will sign post this meeting in English for those who would like to support our club launch , but fear they may be linguistically challenged!
An exciting agenda of speeches and evaluations in french is instore. I will have the pleasure of giving the General Evaluation as Club Mentor.
All will be welcome - come and join in the fun!

It was always going to take something big to shift London Corinthians from our longstanding home at the Thistle Westminster. In inclemently-weathered Britain, where a public speaking club without a roof is a bit of a non-starter, the fact that they are knocking down our building building has just about done it.
Happily, however, we've found ourselves a fabulous new location at the doubletree by Victoria station, which we will also share with London Cardinals.
