Come to our interactive club officer training!

On the 7 February 2013, at the Fitzrovia Community Centre there was the first club officer training in Division B. 

Based on the feedback from last year, when quite a few people said they would appreciate more interactive sessions, we've decided to slightly change the format. In addition to break out sessions, we've added some round the table sessions. Everyone had to choose 3 of 5 topics and go to the appropriate table. After 15 minutes there would be a switch of tables (and topics). This way the session was very energetic and club officers got to choose something they were most interested in rather than having to listen to everything.The topics chosen were:

- Why everyone needs a mentor

- IT tools for Toastmasters

- Team dynamics: dealing with conflict

- Moments of truth: self-awareness for the clubs

- Contest Organiser 101

The breakout sessions were grouped in themes rather than actual roles and focused on main challenges which each club committee faces:

- Club leadership

- Club success plans, area governor elections, succession

- Club management

- annual budgeting, TI club central, practical tips for SAA

- Marketing & PR

- attracting new members, converting guests to members, implementing the brand

- Education & training

- filling meeting roles, encouraging members to do Competent Communicator and Leader manuals as well as going "beyond competence"

The training was conducted by all area governors from Division B and we were also helped by Greg Ros (Division L Governor), Jeanne Kruger (Area 31 Governor) and David Marks.

I strongly encourage all club members to come rather than settling on just 4, which is the minimal requirement to get credit for Distinguished Club Program.

Northern Lights Speakers is proud to host Freddie Daniells' Exceptional Evaluations workshop on 18 February 2013.  And what better time to polish your evaluation skills than just before the club contests begin in earnest next month.

Freddie is the Toastmasters District 71 Governor, responsible for the 7500 members and 260 Toastmasters clubs in Great Britain and Ireland.

All are welcome.  We shall meet at 7pm for a 7.15pm start at the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB.  There are parking places nearby and we're 10-15 mins walk from Camden underground station.

This 90-minute, fun-packed, hands-on workshop is back by popular demand! It is an extended version of the one Richard facilitated at the Division B Speech Contest in October of last year. In it you will learn why getting your message across and being heard is sometimes so difficult, along with exploring how hugely influential nonverbal communication is in all of our interactions, for better and for worse.

You will identify the centred, and grounded physical and vocal resource state within you that will see you through the challenging communication times. As well as, learning to recognise key behaviours we all assume, and skilfully adapting to the same ones our audience use in order to positively influence and win them over.

Our club –the WIBFs Canary Wharf club will be hosting a Table Topics Workshop on the 6 February 2013 designed to help members and guests improve impromptu speaking skills. 

The workshop will be run by the renowned toastmaster Paul Carroll, who is a very experienced Toastmaster and Table Topics Champion. It will be a fun-packed evening and we would like to invite you all to attend and make it a really productive and memorable evening.  
 
Time: 18.15 for an 18.30 start. Meetings end at approximately 20.00, with after-meeting refreshments of drinks and nibbles provided!
