From David Marks, Excalibur Speakers
Special 15th Anniversary Meeting of Excalibur Advanced Speakers Club Wednesday 10 July, 19:15, Fitzrovia Community Centre W1W 6DN An Evening with Champions and Distinguished Toastmasters
You get one opportunity to make a first impression, and incoming President Andrew Bennett has that planned for the first meeting of the new Toastmasters year.
The line-up presents some of the best speakers in our community, and some of the most inspiring leaders.
David Jones, serial contest winner, will deliver a “Toast to Excalibur” speech from the Special Occasions Speeches Manual.
William Dempster, winner of the 2013 International Speech contest in Torquay, will give us a reprise of his winning speech “Whisky”.
Kate McNeilly, Distinguished Toastmaster, will launch the Distinguished Ladies Series of speeches, in memory of the late Helen Blanchard, who was Toastmasters International’s first lady member, and first lady International President.
Incoming Area 45 Governor, Michelle Cheung, will be in charge of a Table Topics impromptu speech session on a celebratory theme. These short speeches, by randomly selected audience members, will be evaluated on the spot by selected members.
The prepared speeches will be evaluated by “Best of Breed” evaluators, Lynne Cantor (2012 District Champion), Carol West DTM and our outgoing District Governor Freddie Daniells, renowned for his workshops on evaluations.
The formal part of the meeting will be concluded with a General Evaluation by the incoming Division B Governor, Jacqueline Purcell.
There will be an opportunity to meet the new club leadership team and to thank the outgoing one, ably led by President Simon Cooper.
Excalibur is an Advanced Toastmasters Club which helps its members to progress through the Advanced Speaking manuals, and also to support them through more challenging leadership roles in Toastmasters and beyond. Membership is available to existing members of Toastmasters clubs who have completed the first 6 speeches in the Competent Communication manual. All Toastmasters are welcome to attend, as are non Toastmasters. The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month, and also undertakes projects in the community.
