London Corinthians Interviews Past Presidents for Leadership Tips

We all get to that time of year where we start thinking about succession planning. For those of us attempting the new challenge of taking a role on the committee for the first time, it can be especially daunting and particularly so in the top spot as President of your club. Most of us are keen to learn from those who went before us, although in many cases in London's ever expanding network of Toastmaster clubs, sources of advices may be regrettably few.

• In this workshop, Irene Bradshaw, a renowned voice coach and a professional actress, will demonstrate to the participants the 7 aspects relating to how the voice works as an instrument for stronger delivery. The ability to control the voice is an essential skill for any committed Toastmaster. The 7 bridges are:

  • Relaxation techniques

  • The impulse of sound

27 June The Ultimate Table Topics workshop

David Jones has won the UK and Ireland Table Topics Contest four times! He has also surveyed a large number of others who have excelled in Table Topics, including five other UK and Ireland Table Topics Contest Champions.

At the UK and Ireland Conference in Torquay last month, David shared his emerging thoughts at a Table Topics workshop and he has since trialled aspects of the workshop elsewhere.

He is now ready to deliver a full two hour workshop at Excalibur Speakers. At this workshop, David will, in his own inimitable style, share with you his thoughts, and those of many others, about how to deliver excellent Table Topics. And in this fast paced and highly interactive workshop, there will also be plenty of opportunity for practising aspects of delivering a great Table Topic.

This workshop will be suitable for anyone wishing to develop their impromptu speaking and improve their Table Topics, whether they are looking to win the next UK and Ireland contest, compete in their own club contest in September, or simply perform better in Table Topics at their club nights.

Saturday 29 June Tall Tales at Surbiton Library

On Saturday 29 June 2013 Camberley Speakers Club is hosting a Tall Tales Contest at Surbiton Library.

Join them from 2-4.30pm at the Large Hall at Surbiton Library, Ewell Road, Surbiton, KT6 6AG.

The speeches will be 3-5 minutes long. Should be a lot of fun!

11 June Evaluation Masterclass

Croxley Communicators achieves its first CC

Croxley Communicators has had a particularly splendid first year since achieving Charter status. This corporate club based at financial software company GBST in Croxley Green has impressed experienced guest Toastmasters with its enthusiasm and professional approach to meeting organization.

 

On 28 May I was delighted as Club Sponsor and London Division B Evaluation Champion to participate in a celebratory meeting when Buka Mulwila delivered the club's first ever number 10 speech.

 

Buka's speech was relayed by live link from Hong Kong where he has been representing the company over the past few months. It was entitled ' Initium'  and not only did he use his own story of working for his CC award to inspire his fellow club members, but he very cleverly  highlighted special moments in the first year of the club's existence through amusing use of anecdotes.

 

Buka proved that circumstances and distance do not need to stop us from completing our awards. I was overjoyed and humbled to be able to offer his evaluation on this occasion.

 

A lively sequence of Table Topics with on the spot evaluation from Evaluators picked spontaneously among the members ensued.

 

A further thrill for the club was the visit and General Evaluation of our District 71 Governor Freddie Daniells to add to the celebratory mood of the occasion. We introduced Freddie as ' Toastmasters royalty with a servant's heart' and I am sure we are all grateful for the exceptional qualities and time he has brought to his role this year - both as Communicator and Leader.

 

President Esther Bray, her committee and club members merit the highest praise for the progress being made at their twice monthly, one hour long meetings.

Come to the annual Persuaders' contest at London Corinthians!

On 13 June London Corinthians will be holding its 15th annual Persuaders' Contest. In an event, which as far as we know, is unique across London. Competitors will go head to head in 3 minute persuasive speeches in the first round on a subject of their choice. In the second round, the top five will compete  on a subject chosen by the contest chair (this year the ever charismatic Pemma Fox). 

It's always a great night befitting London's second oldest club and a great opportunity to experience a different format. Perhaps we'll even persuade you start a persuaders' contest in your club too.

Toastmasters and guests are most welcome. We hope to see you all there at 7.30pm at our usual venue:

Monday 3 June - join Toastmasters as they take on a debate challenge

On Monday 3 June 2013 members of London Corinthians will be taking part in a debate at the Sylvans Debate Club.  The motion? This House is very pleased that UKIP is doing so well.
