From Deena Blacking, VP PR Early Bird Speakers
Do you ever worry that your Toastmasters meeting is lacking lustre? Has a member ever suggested that you could do more to relate the skills we develop in a meeting to real-life situations?
At Early Bird Speakers we strive to find solutions to these perennial problems by innovating. One of our more recent innovations at the club - the “Interviewer” role – has been hugely successful in bringing something new to the meeting and helping our members in their professional development.
What is it?
The Interviewer follows the prepared speeches and asks one question to each speaker. The aim is ask questions that will challenge each of the speakers and interest the audience. It could be considered to be an advanced table topic.
What is the benefit of the Interviewer role?
The role is designed to give each of the speakers the valuable experience of being questioned on their speech as if they were doing a radio interview, panel discussion or job interview. For the Interviewer themselves, it offers an evaluation role similar to that of the Grammarian, where one must listen attentively. In a professional context, the skills developed in this role will complement those required as a interviewer or in a management role.
