Area Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests this week PLUS the first Division contests

There are Area Table Topics and Humorous Speech for you to enjoy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the first of three London Division Workshops/Finals on Saturday this week. 

Monday 30 September 7.15pm. Area 6 Contests Rubens at the Palace Hotel, 39 Buckingham Palace Road, London, Victoria SW1W 0PS (a short walk from Victoria station) Winners from London Cardinal, London Corinthians, London Olympians, Phoenix Speakers compete.

Tuesday1 October 7.15pm:  Area 53 Contests will take place at Glyn Hall, 3 Cheam Road, Ewell, Surrey, KT17 1SP 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.Winners from the Epsom Speakers, Mole Valley Speakers and LBM Speakers will compete. Flyer with full details: Download Area 53 Contest - Oct 2013

Wednesday 2 October: 6.15pm for 6.30pm start. Area 58 Contests at The first floor, Bunch of Grapes, 14 Lime Street EC3M 7AN. Nearest underground stations: Monument and Bank. Winners from Broadgate Speakers, 1st London Toastmasters, MLP London Bridge Speakers, City of London Speakers, Woodford Green Speakers compete.

Wednesday 2 October 7.15pm: Area 29 Contests St Aidan's Church Hall, St. Andrews Church Centre, Mount Park Road, Ealing, London W5 2RS a short walk from Ealing Broadway station. Winners from London Athenians, Riverside Communicators, Trojans Speakers, West London Speakers compete.

New lunchtime Excalibur meetings in Covent Garden

Excalibur Advanced Speakers are proud to congratulate David Jones on winning the Area 45 Table Topics Contest.

We are also pleased to anounce that we will be holding a once monthly lunchtime Speak Out meeting at the Concert Artistes Association Club, 20 Bedford Street, Covent Garden WC2E 9HP on the 4th Thursday of the month.

The first Speak Out meeting will be on 24 October 2013 from 12 till 1o'clock and then on 28 November. No Speak Out in December.

Guests are very welcome to this less formal meeting consisting of prepared Speeches and Evaluations. A very pleasant way to spend your lunch break and even enjoy a  reasonably priced meal in the bar after the meeting.

 

Division L Champions Conference Saturday 5 October - BOOK NOW!

It is with great pleasure that Division L announces registration details of their “Champions Conference” to be held next Saturday 5 October 2013 at Cass Business School.

This conference will feature not 1, not 2 but 3 superb UK &Ireland Public Speaking Champions who'll be running sessions along with the Division L Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests.divlcontests.eventbrite.com

Listening

Evaluators will listen keenly, then give us insightful & encouraging feedback

Speaking

And of course Speaking!

There’ll be one speech, prepared from one of the Toastmasters’ well structured & well proven training manuals

There’ll also be a series of shorter, impromptu speeches, which teach us to deal with the unexpected, to think on our feet

Usually there're several prepared speech at a Toastmasters meeting - why only one for this event?There’ll be more time for explanations & clarifications as the meeting progresses, and Questions & Answers towards the end.

Area 52 Contest results!

Kings Speakers, chartered less than a year, were the gracious hosts to Area 52 Humorous and Table Topic contests on Thursday 26 September and its members’ hospitality gave the whole event an especially warm and encouraging glow.

The packed room was guided through the evening by Contest Chair Sean Glasgow and Chief Judge Dave Longley with strong backing from officers from the Area clubs: Berkeley Square; Grosvenor Square; Imperial Speakers; Kings Speakers and Polish Your Polish. ‘Those who must remain anonymous’ came from clubs scattered around London and the Home Counties and they too deserve a big thank you for their dedication to the cause!

Needless to say, everyone left enriched and uplifted - there were no losers, only winners on the night despite many of the speeches describing the trials and tribulations of finding or keeping one’s true love and remedies for life and love dramas. However decisions had to be made.

The winners of the Humorous Speech Contest were Taz Virdee (1st); Usman Choudhry (2nd) and David Dijemeni (3rd) 

The winners of the Table Topics Contest were Andrew Hill (1st); Taz Virdee (2nd) and Marcel Admiraal (3rd).

Area 47 Contest results!

On Wednesday 25 September 2013 London Business School Public Speaking Club hosted the Area 47 Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests.  With members taking part from LBS, London Communicators and Northern Lights we knew that we were set for a wonderful night of speeches.

The Humorous Speech contest held in the first half of the meeting and was chaired by Laura La Grutta. We were privileged to hear speeches covering diverse subjects such as personal temptations, travelling and unexpected motivational techniques.

Lorenza Brescia was our Contest Chair for the Table Topics contest in which contestants addressed the question on how they pick themselves up when they are down.

All club winners did a fantastic job in representing their clubs in the Area contest and it was surely no easy task for the assembled contest judges to determine the placing.

Results

The Area 47 Humorous Speech contest was won by James Steven, second place David Lennon

The Area 47 Table Topics contest was won by Dorothea Stuart, second place Simon Cooper.

We warmly wish James and Dorothea the very best of luck and will be loudly cheering them on as they brave the Division L finals on the 5 October at Cass Business School (near Moorgate). 

 

Area 33 Contest results!

On Tuesday 24 September ACCAmembers Breakfast Club hosted the Area 33 contest. Co-chairs of the event were Sue Yen Leow and myself. We had the great pleasure of having Kate McNeilly as our chief judge.

The event was lovely and supported by 35 members from the area clubs and in the presence of our immediate past Area Governor Donna Hicks, our Division L Governor Ash Sethi and Graeme Phillips Area 34 Governor.

After much deliberation by the judges during which time our eminent guests entertaining us with some table topics the winners were announced!

Humorous Speech & Table Topics Contests at GSS

Monday 23 September was contest time at Grosvenor Square Speakers. Our members competed for best humorous speech and best Table Topics (impromptu) speech.

Congratulations to everyone who entered - what an exceptional achievement. Along with all our judges, timekeepers, ballot counters and SAA, you helped to ensure a night filled with fun and laughter.  It was a privilege to chair the evening and I thank our Chief Judge, Neil Coleman, for all his support.

For the Table Topics Contest, contestants entertained us with their take on 'When you were young, what did you get into trouble for most?'  In 3rd place was Rajinder Pryor, in 2nd place was Suzanne Pool and in 1st place was Taz Virdee.

For the Humorous Contest, in 2nd place was Annabelle Carmichael, sharing with us her 'Stories from home' and, in 1st place, was Taz Virdee.

The Area 52 contest will take place today at King's Speakers from 6.45pm.  We hope to see you there to support your club and hear yet more humorous speeches and table topics! I can't, however, promise the presence of humorous biscuits!
