Evaluation Workshop at London Athenians 14 January 2014

On Tuesday 14 January 2014 Freddie Daniells, Immediate Past District 71 (UK & Ireland) Governor will be giving his Exceptional Evaluations Workshop at London Athenians.  Please join us if you can.

The workshop will start promptly at 7.15pm and will last until approximately 9.15pm.

Venue: the upstairs function room, the Hop Poles, 17-19 King Street, Hammersmith, W6 9HR. We are close to Hammersmith underground and bus stations.

Area 33 Christmas Party

Area 33 held there their Christmas Party on Friday 6 December at Juno in Shoreditch. It was attended by over 70 members from the area clubs! The evening started off with the Area Governor’s ‘icebreaker’ quiz allowing members to get to know each other by finding answers from each other. This was followed by a tasty buffet and table topics galore! Then we had an opportunity for a photo shoot with our very own Toastmaster Santa.

The evening finished off with music on the floor.

A special thank you goes to Raphael from Experience French for organising the event, without his hard work it would never have happened! And of course to Santa aka Chris and all the members who made an effort to come along. 

Twin Tall Tales Contest at London Corinthians

On Thursday 30 January 2014 7pm for a 7.30m start London Corinthians are holding a unique Twin Tall Tales Contest at The Cadogan Hotel, 75 Sloane Street, SW1X 9SG.

There are perhaps two newsworthy aspects of this contest...!  It is in two rounds, prepared and impromptu.  The five winners of Round 1 will face an impromptu tall tale challenge in Round 2.  

Also newsworthy is that we are opening the contest to all our alumni – and, as you can imagine, since we have been around since 1990 and spawned many a club, there are plenty of those! Early Birds Speech Evaluation experiment

At a recebt Early Bird Speakers Toastmasters meeting, we tried something a little different with the evaluation format.  Instead of the standard format of one evaluator per speech, we had a panel of evaluators, who all provided feedback on each speech.  

The varied format received a really positive response overall from the members, guests and speakers themselves.

Northern Lights Speakers club has a new home in 2014

Northern Lights Speakers' Club www.northernlightsspeakers.co.uk has found a new home! In the new year we will be moving to Haverstock College for our regular Monday night meetings.

Our last meeting at our current venue  London Irish Centre, 52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB will be on Monday 16 December 2013. Please do  join us for a fun festive celebration to mark the occasion. We meet at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start and are planning an extended session of Table Topics. Wear something festive to get in the mood and afterwards we will adjourn to a local pub The Colonel Fawcett, 1 Randolph Street, NW1 0SS for food and drinks. 

December Club Officer Training - Area 45 and 52 get ahead!

Last Thursday was the joint Areas 45 and 52 early COT session and what a turn out! From Division B, 6 clubs were represented and there were officers from other London clubs. In addition to the mince pies and oversized Toblerone, we feasted on engaging and useful presentations including Conflict Resolution, Projects beyond the CC/CL and How to Plan for Club success. Attendees agreed that there was a special vibe and enthusiasm which made the experience so much more rewarding.

Four of the clubs have achieved their full DCP credit - Berkeley Square Speakers will start 2014 as a President's Distinguished club and Excalibur a Distinguished club. For those who missed out, do not despair - the next Division B COT event will be held on 15th January, so put it in your diary now!
