Can you help judging on Thursday 2 Oct for Area 47?

Area 47 is holding its contest at LBS near Baker Street station ay 7pm, later this week on Thursday 2nd October. Club winners competing are from: London Communicators, LBS, Northern Lights Speakers. If you can help to boost the judging team it would be much appreciated.

Judges need to have completed 6 speeches from the CC manual and be fully paid up members of a Toastmasters club.

Area 52 Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests - results!

At precisely 8:43 PM on Wednesday, 24 September 2014 white smoke emerged from the room where the the chief judge and ballot counters were tallying the results for the 2014 Area 52 Humorous Speech and Table Topics finals.

And the winners are …

Humorous Speech

Annabelle Carmichael (Grosvenor Square Speakers, 1st) edged out Usman Choudhry (King’s Speakers, 2nd).

 

 

 

Table Topics

Julia Collings (Ofgem Speakers, 1st) beat Clare Pophale (Berkeley Square Speakers, 2nd) and Pedro Casillas (Grosvenor Square Speakers, 3rd) to the finish line.

 

Congratulations to our winners.  Annabelle and Julia will represent Area 52 at the Division B finals and will give the contestants from the other Areas in Division B and beyond a run for their money.

Many thanks to all of you who made an equally enjoyable and competitive contest happen:  all our contestants, a great and engaged audience, all functionaries and judges and especially our two contests chairs Chucks Onwere and  Andrew Stead and our chief judge Iain Scott.

The Division B final will take place on Saturday, 11 October at the Freemason’s Hall. 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ (registration begins at 09:30 AM for 10:00 AM start).

Area 29 Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contests - results!

Area 29 had an outstanding contest evening on Thursday 25 September. There were fine performances from the competitors representing London Athenians, Riverside Communicators, Trojans Speakers and West London Speakers: great inventiveness in the table topics and much laughter generated by the speeches.

There was a fun and supportive atmosphere throughout the proceeding. Instead of table topics "mini interviews" with the competitors proved very successful . Each contestant had an opportunity to let us in on their Toastmaster journey which the audience responded to with great interest.

A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the evening a success: our enthusiastic audience, our judges, our timekeepers,  ballot counters and to Gagan Singh VPPR at Athenians for masterminding the photographs.  A particular thank you for the expert contest chairing from Marion Sherriffs (West London Speakers) and Al Johnson (Riverside Communictors) and our chief Judge Dorothea Stuart who took home a beautiful bouquet in recognition of her support.

Our Area 29 winners Kedar and Errol will go through to the third round of the contest at Division B on Saturday 11 October in Covent Garden (Freemasons' Hall). Please join us then.

Monday 29 Sept. 6.45pm for 7pm start.  The Area 6 Table Topics Contest and Humorous Speech Contest. The winners from London Cardinals, London Corinthians. London Olympians, Phoenix Speakers and JP Morgan First Class Speakers will compete for the Area trophies.  The contests will be chaired by Edward Till, DTM at Grange Strathmore Hotel, 41 Queen's Gate Gardens, London SW7 5NB (nearest tube stations are either Gloucester Road or South Kensington.Please come along!

Tuesday 30 Sept 7.15pm. Area 53 Table Topics Contest and Humorous Speech Contest.  The winners from Epsom Speakers, Mole Valley Speakers LBM Speakers will compete.  The Wells Centre, Spa Drive, The Wells, Epsom, KT18 7LR All welcome! (map).

Broadgate Speakers sweep the Area 58 Contests with gusto!

The Area 58 contest was held in a stunning church in Aldgate last night with contestants from 1st London Toastmasters, Broadgate Speakers, City Speakers and MLP London Bridge Speakers.

Josselin Herjean, of 1^st London Toastmasters, graced us with his flute for some musical delights that lent itself well to the acoustics of this stunning church.

Area 58 Table Topics Contest

We began with finding out what useless facts our table topic contestants have learned along the way and boy where they useless facts indeed!  But none as useless as the three useless facts that Robert Cole of Broadgate Speakers learned from his travels. Robert managed to impress the judges to scoop first place with Tony Stead of 1^st London Speakers coming in second.

     Area 58 Humorous Speech Contest

Much hilarity ensued with a diverse range of speeches such as the consequences of partying for two days straight, sculpting the ultimate physique and trying to guess the true story of how a pair of shorts got torn in a series of unlikely events. Our winners were: 1st Place Lucia Pino-Garcia 2nd Place Christine Harris.

We ended the evening with Richard White, Area 58 Governor, recognising 1^st London Toastmasters, Broadgate Speakers and MLP London Bridge Speakers for having already run workshops in the first three months of the TM year. This means that the Area goal of each club running two workshops within the year is well underway to the benefit of all Toastmasters!

We also celebrated MLP London Bridge for having already achieved 4 DCP points!

The weather might be getting colder, but the competition is definitely getting hotter. Covent Garden Speakers, Early Bird Speakers and Excalibur Speakers are taking to the stage to do battle for the distinction of winning the Area 45 speech contests.

Club champions will be trying to out-do each other in their quest to reach the next round of the Humorous Speech and Table Topics Competitions. Expect hilarity, story telling and impromptu speeches from some of London's best speakers.
