Toastmasters PR - recently published articles

As part of our PR for Toastmasters International club in the UK & Ireland we are publishing articles on public speaking and leadership.  These are now being published on websites with substantial readerships so the awareness of Toastmasters as an organisation is growing!

London Toastmasters Division K contest results

The Division K contests took place with full room and great atmosphere at Barclay's on Canary Wharf. Around 120 toastmasters from the division and their guests enjoyed, learned and encouraged the contestants. They were happy to meet each other too.

The contests were hosted by WiBF Speakers -Canary Wharf  with club president Becky Tuff and many of the club members present. Contest Chair Chris Howell lead the contest professional. Much of the hard work in preparation for the contests was done by Katy Woolcott, Assistant Division Governor,and her team - thank you to all of them.

As we have 4 Areas in Division K two contestants came through to represent their areas in each contest. The overall standard was excellent so we were very proud of all of them.

The chief judge Vanessa King, Lt Governor Marketing D91 announced the results.

Division Governor Julie Kertesz presented each winner with a trophy. All six winners received a book for further study. It was a great event for all of us who were there.

London Toastmasters Division B welcomes 3 new corporate clubs

You know what they say? The best things come in threes. And that is what we have in Division B with 3 new corporate clubs chartered within weeks of the start of the Toastmaster year.

The first to charter was J. P. Morgan First Class Speakers, welcomed to Toastmasters in a ceremony attended by Jean Gamester, Lt. Governor Education &Training and several experienced members on 1 October.

Ofgem Speakers, the second corporate club to be set up, was initiated by Szilvia Doczi, VPM at Grosvenor Square Speakers. She recognised that the skills she was learning at the club would be really helpful for her work colleagues. She has attracted many enthusiastic club members and Julia Collings, Ofgem’s VP PR, is heading to Brighton to represent Division B at the District Table Topics contest having made impressive impromptu speeches at Area and Division contests.

The third new club is Toastmasters at Rackspace. An invitation to the President Els Vermeulen to speak at a 'Women in Leadership' conference came after a comment at an earlier session where the focus had been on 'confidence' and 'courage' She emphasised that if you master public speaking you'll gain enough confidence and courage to make it into leadership and she talked about how, within a year, Toastmasters (Trojans) ‘changed my life from being somebody who'd rather miss the bus than ask the driver a question, to somebody who can share her opinion in a confident manner in front of a group of people.‘ With another Toastmaster-aware work colleague they won the support of the Director of Talent and members are powering through their projects.

Division H (D91 UK South Toastmasters) contests - the results

The Division H Humorous Speech and Table Topics contests took place in Oxted Community Hall on October 18th. Five gloriously chuckleworthy speeches and five wonderfully original responses to the topic, “What would you like to ban?” gave the audience a superbly entertaining afternoon.

Of course, a contest does not just happen and I would like to record my appreciation of the many Toastmasters who competed, judges, helped to set up the hall, filled the gaps in my organisation, ran the kitchen and helped keep me sane; you know who you are and I thank every one of you.

And now ... (drum roll) ... the winners!
