From Julius Gamanyi, VP PR 104 London Debaters
We've seen the TV debates. The General Election is close at hand. It seems unlikely that one political party will win. What do you think? Come to our next meeting to have your say, to practice as a debater and to learn what makes one debater more persuasive than another.
For the meeting on 28 April, we've set the motion of the debate as: "This House Would Welcome Another Coalition."
Just as the prepared debaters support and oppose the motion, there is time allotted for contributions from the audience. Many times the floor contributions, once summarised by the last speaker, have turned the debate; or at least challenged our preconceived ideas.
Before starting the main debate, we also have Table Topics – impromptu, short debates on a randomly selected topic. Speakers have to take a stand and give a definite point of view.
Join us at the next meeting on Tuesday, 28 April 2015.
Time: 6.45pm for 7pm-9pm.
Venue: Upstairs function room, Windsor Castle, 23 Francis St, London SW1P 1DN (close to Victoria station)
