New 2015/16 Committee for City of London Toastmasters club

Following the officer elections on Tuesday 19th May; I'm delighted to announce the new committee that will be supporting the City of London Toastmasters (CoLT) club effective from 1st July 2015; helping all our guests and members to make the most of your public speaking journey.

It’s a farewell – to the current committee!! But a new set of fresh faces to keep the CoLT at the best club in London! A note of thanks to David Charles, Isaya Taingwa, Mahir Hamurcu, Monika Bochra and Tom Hunt that held key roles in the 2014/15 committee and will now involved in other opportunities.

Paul Rocks	Club President I have been a member of City Speakers for several years now. I've completed the competent communicator, competent leader and the advanced communicator Bronze aware. I now want to use the skills I've learned here want to help other people the same way toastmasters has helped me over the years.
Rachel De Cesaro   Leigh Clark	Vice President of Education Challenge motivates me and I'm thankful to Toastmaster for providing me that, either by delivering speeches, by taking a role or as a committee member. As VPE shared role, I hope to get members involved and excited about completing their CC manuals! I'm counting on you for that!     I’ve been a member of City of London Toastmasters for over a year and is close to completing my Competent Communicator award.  I’m keen to help ensure CoLT remains a popular club and to encourage all its members to make the most of development opportunities that exist both within the club and in the wider Toastmasters organisation.
Leanne Wenham	Vice President of Membership I joined Toastmasters over two years ago and it has made such a difference to my public speaking skills; I can't recommend it highly enough. When I'm not at the computer working on my next speech you might find me exploring one of London's many eateries or running in my local park.
Dimos Mouskovias	Vice President Mentoring I have been a member of City Of London Speakers for a number of years now and can honestly say that the benefits gained have improved my life both professionally and socially. By day I work as an IT specialist for a City Law firm and by night I enjoy 'treading the boards' of a local Amateur Dramataics Society I belong to, which I should add would not be possible had Toastmasters not provided me the confidence and skills to present myself on stage.
Christine Harris	Club Treasurer I have been a member of City of London Toastmasters for more than 4 years and have benefitted enormously from Toastmasters.  I have gone from avoiding speaking in public at all costs, to putting myself forward to give presentations, speaking at conferences and applying for a job I never thought I'd get. Who knows what Toastmasters will help me to do next!
Tom O’Toole	Sergeant at Arms I am a projects manager for a construction company. I enjoy all things construction and I am passionate about food, health, fitness and yoga outside of work. I love toastmasters and I am excited to be part of the committee for the coming year!

Kings Cross Speakers - come and visit us!

As one of the newest Toastmasters clubs in North London – we are excited to be in our 4^th month running. Having a high turnout of 65% first-time guests each meeting we always look forward to running out TableTopic sessions enabling guests to engage in impromptu discussions.

We thank the support of our sponsored clubs in Area 34 and want to encourage as many more Toastmaster members to come visit us at our future meetings. Sergey's aim is to help us conquer fear, step out of our comfort zone, change perspective and improve our performance in public speaking

At this workshop, we will start by creating a 3D space, based on an image of a beach holiday.

Then we will enrich this space using our five senses to achieve the effect of presence there, learning simple and powerful techniques that allow us to create a visual story based on the image.

Finally, to practice the technique, we will create our own version of a story that happened in British Africa more than 100 years ago and make it truly entertaining and difficult to forget.

London Victorians Workshop: The Characteristics of Effective Leaders

Have you always wondered what it takes to become a leader? What traits, habits and characteristics effective and inspirational leaders have that makes them stand out from the rest? Leadership is fundamentally a skill that can be learned like many others.

On Wednesday 20 May 2015, London Victorians will be holding a “Success Leadership” workshop on the characteristics of effective leaders. This interactive one hour workshop will explore the qualities, values and styles effective leaders display. Participants will be able to identify their own leadership styles and to develop self-awareness of any gaps that might require attention to become a more effective leaders.

Exercises will include:

-Determining your leadership style

-Identifying team leadership need

-Discussing leadership gaps and leadership matches

The session will be facilitated by Sergey Karassov, ACS, CL. Sergey is a successful trainer, coach and facilitator. He has a special interest in leadership and enjoys developing others to become better leaders and public speakers.

The event will take place between 12h and 13h in the Concert Artistes Association in 20 Bedford Street. Places are limited and prior book is required here.

Experience French registered an award on the 2 April which took the club to 10/10 points in the Distinguished Club Program.  Khaled is visiting us for to celebrate this success.

All are welcome. 2/3 Experience French meetings are conducted in French, but this is an informal event,there is no need to worry about the language issue. Come along to meet Khaled and the committee behind Experience French's success. The committee is also keen to receive visitors who are interested in finding out more about the club and possibly joining. Feel free to come along whatever your reason.

Could you be the next District 91 Finance Manager or Asst Manager?

We are currently filling the roles of Finance Manager and Asst Finance Manager for 2015/16 for District 91 (UK South).

Why would you want one of these roles?

It’s an opportunity to contribute at the equivalent of board level in a not for profit organisation (we have 3,500 members across around 130 clubs in the south of the UK). It's also a great way to experience Toastmasters at a strategic level. We are one of the top performing districts in the world.  This means we have an increasing numbers of clubs, these clubs are successful in helping their members develop and gain educational awards and over 80% of clubs attain distinguished club status. Finance Manager

The finance manager is a key role on the district leadership team – not only involved in shaping the district’s budget, but also in managing and reporting on the district's finances throughout the year. Here is the official description:

As the district’s finance manager, you are tasked with the fiscal oversight and management of the district. The district treasurer works closely with the district director to ensure that the district is making cost-effective decisions— within policy—that result in effective fiscal management. The district treasurer should have knowledge of accounting and be acquainted with the handling of financial matters.

Finance Assistant Manager

This a new role - the person will work closely with the Finance Manager. There is an opportunity for the two of you to shape the role.
