Funny Women was founded by Lynne Parker in 2002 to help women find their voice through performing, writing and using humour in business and everyday life.

The Funny Women Awards were launched in 2003, and have seen some fantastic acts pass through their doors who are now major names on the comedy circuit including Bridget Christie, Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho and Sarah Millican.

With this workshop you will know the secrets of:

• What makes a successful Table Topic response, and
• The “TREAT” or strategy that Elizabeth developed during her six week preparation to go from contest to District Champion

By the end of this interactive workshop, you will learn:

• How to gain time and think quickly when the question is formulated
• Engage with your audience using your own distinctive approach
• Delivered a well-planned and effective response 

Once you master these core skills you will have the confidence to deliver a successful Table Topic response, even under the most extreme challenges.

Wed 26 Aug Humour Workshop with Max Dickins - REMINDER!

In view of the forthcoming Humorous Speech Contest, Experience French and Fairfield Speakers have come together to organise a fantastic workshop, exclusively run by professional comedian, Max Dickins on Wednesday 26 August.

This workshop is for those who are preparing for the Humorous Speech Contest and also for anyone who wants to add a bit of variety and humour to their presentation skills.

The evening will include a talk by Max, followed by an extensive Q & A Session. Then after the break there will be an interactive session with games and exercises.  So come along with your questions and your speeches.

The ticket is £9.97 (to cover the cost of the venue and the food). There will be a buffet in the break, which is included in the price.

Club Officer Training Harrow 23 August

Our club officer training is taking place on 23 August. Venue: The Brige, Christchurch Avenue, Harrow HA3 5BD

At this club officer training event coming up in Division L and hosted by Area 61, we hope you will seize the opportunity to pick up new ideas for your club for 2015-16, as well as share a few of your own.

Please meet at 13:30 for 14:00 sharp start of the programme.

The outline of the day will be as follows:

1. Icebreaker

2. Group quiz format covering Distinguished Club Programme, Moment of Truth, Club Officer roles, various Toastmasters websites.

3. Interactive quiz answer session with prizes!

4. High Performance Leadership Presentation

5. Feedback forms for improvement for next time.

We will be looking at Moments of Truth, Distinguished Club Programme, club officer roles,  and supporting websites together with the High Performance Leadership overview.

London Toastmasters: Change of D91 Division K Area and Division Directors

Due to changes in personal circumstances new appointments have been made to the Division K leadership team.  We are very pleased to announce that Annushia Goede  will take over from Richard White as Division K Director, and Peter Varholak will take over from Francesca Coronin as Area K58 Director with immediate effect.  We are currently seeking a new Area 59 Director (see below).

Richard, Francesca and William will continue to be active club members and will come back into leadership roles when the time is right for them.

Seeking Area 59 Director

We are seeking an Area 59 Director to replace William Hagerup.  If you would like to consider undertaking this role contact Jean Gamester  by 17 August letting her know why you would like to do this role and what you would plan to achieve if appointed.  Area 59 comprises: Citi Criers, Meridian Speakers, Lewisham Speakers, Speakers Corner and London Trustmasters.

Why would you want this role?

It’s an opportunity to contribute at the equivalent of board level in a not for profit organisation (we have 3,500 members across around 130 clubs in the south of the UK). It's also a great way to experience Toastmasters at a strategic level.  We are one of the top performing districts in the world.   This means we have an increasing numbers of clubs, these clubs are successful in helping their members develop and gain educational awards and over 80% of clubs attain distinguished club status.  The role of Area Director is crucial in supporting this level of performance. Area 34 & 56 Club Officer Training - last chance this summer!

Areas 34 & 56 are calling all club officers from London to join us for club officer training on Thursday 27 August, at St Botolphs Church, Aldgate between 18h30 and 21h00. The nearest tube station is Aldgate.

In this training, we’ll cover essential tips for running a successful club.

This event is not just for Area 34/56 officers - we invite all officers who have not been able to attend any other trainings earlier this summer. Non-officers are also welcome to attend the sessions to gain a wider appreciation of the Toastmasters experience beyond the club level and participate in the workshops!
