From 1st London Toastmasters
Fellow Lawyer, Barrister and Solicitor Toastmasters and Dear Toastmasters in general!
We need your help!
We have offered our help to the University of Law that we will help their law students to set up their own Toastmaster club (the “Law Speak” club) early 2016.
For this purpose, we are starting a Toastmasters Speechcraft programme on Thursday 22 October to train a small number of law students, in public speaking and leadership skills, and help them run this new Students club.
We need your help to deliver this Speechcraft programme.
What is a Speechcraft programme?
Speechcraft is an intensive Toastmasters workshop consisting of 4 to 8 weekly sessions of 2 hours on communication and leadership for a limited number of participants (12 maximum).
The Speechcraft program is delivered by experienced Toastmasters members to present the fundamentals of public speaking to non-members and train them in the atmosphere of a Toastmasters club meeting.
The “Law Speechcraft” programme will consist in 4 sessions, once per week on every Thursday: 22 October, 29 October, 5 November and 12 November 2015.
The sessions will take place at the University of Law Bloomsbury, 14 Store St, London WC1E 7DE between 6.00 PM and 8.00 PM. Room: SG01.
A session will be similar to a TM club meeting but with more training and fewer roles. All functionary roles will be taken by Toastmasters members and all speaking roles will be taken by law students. Toastmasters with law related background could share their experience how Toastmasters has helped them in their life!
To run a session WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Each session requires a lot of resources: at least 7 club members to cover all the following roles: 1 timekeeper, 1 Table Topics master, 1 trainer, 3 to 4 evaluators, 1 General Evaluator and 6 advisors for students. Each club member (except for the Timekeeper) will be able to take 2 roles such as Table Topic master and advisor or evaluator and advisor.
The advisor role is similar to that of a mentor for 1 or 2 students during the sessions (ie providing verbal feedback and advice as well as assisting students in writing their prepared speeches for the following week).
There is no minimum requirement for the timekeeper but a minimum requirement of 3 speeches delivered so far to be a Table Topic master, an evaluator or advisor for the night. The educational trainer and the General Evaluator will be selected by the organisers. Please keep in mind that you do not have to come for more than one session, unless you wish to.
What are the benefits for you?
1) Be part of a fantastic experience with other fellow toastmasters.
2) Make a difference in your life and in other people's life!
2) Practice speaking & giving constructive feedback in a safe environment besides your club.
3) Develop mentoring and leadership skills by advising young students.
4) Have fun! This is guaranteed!
Finally, you might even meet your future lawyer who could help you out :D !!!
