Area 56 Contest – What an outstanding and unforgettable evening!

The Area 56 Contest was held on Thursday 9 March in the church of Saint Botolph Without Aldgate. A spectacular venue for an exceptional contest, where we saw each of our 5 Area 56 clubs, compete in the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest. Well done to all speech contestants for the great, inspiring and insightful speeches, as well as to the evaluation contestants for the outstanding evaluations! In the end all 5 clubs were represented on the podium, what a great achievement!

Evaluation Contest: 1st place Chris Lynam (Deutsche Bank London Toastmasters), 2nd place Matthew Robinson (Data Science Speakers), 3rd place David McDonnell (BlackRock Speaks)

International Speech Contest: 1st place Gunita Bhasin (Deutsche Bank London Toastmasters), 2nd place Jane Harries (WiBF Speakers-City), 3rd place Sarah Mannan (Barings Speaking Club)

About the speaker:

Bob Ferguson has been a member of Toastmasters International for 20 years. In that time he has been awarded Distinguished Toastmaster status and won the UK & Ireland championships for International, Evaluation and Humorous Speeches. He is an Aerospace Engineer and spends a lot of his time helping technical speakers engage with audiences and communicate in the workplace.

 

 

Area 52 contests - the results!

Beautifully tall ceiling and bright chandeliers created an atmosphere of mystery on that glorious spring evening at Grange Strathmore Hotel. 

The night started with an election for the next Area Director. There were two candidates. We are pleased to announce incoming Area 52 Director is Rory Graves. 

Suave Contest Chair, Rakesh Patalay did a fabulous job at leading the contest. He kept everyone interested and entertained during the whole evening.

Area 6 contest this Wednesday 29 March - come along!

Please join us for the Area 6 International Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest both of which are being held on Wednesday 29 March starting at 7pm.

The venue: Grange Strathmore Hotel, 41 Queen's Gate Garden  SW7 5NB (close to Gloucester Road station)

Area 6 comprises: London Athenians, London Corinthians, London Olympians, Sytel Reply Toastmasters, West London Speakers and our newest club Wellington Management London Toastmasters.

Come to an advanced speakers evening Wed 12 April

Are you an advanced speaker looking for a new audience and speaking slots for your advanced manual projects?

Would you like to complete the current education programme and become a Distinguished Toastmaster by 2019?

If so put Wednesday 12 April in your diary now!  Riverside Communicators is holding a special advanced speakers evening and you can be involved.  The evening will cost you £zero. The perfect price!

Many clubs are busy and it’s often difficult to give as many speeches as you would like. Equally important is that the new education programme Toastmasters Pathways will be replacing the current programme leaving you with two years to complete your DTM.

Riverside Communicators is starting new evenings aimed at Advanced Speakers only.  Speakers from other clubs are very welcome to come along speak and take roles.  We will need volunteers to support us in running these meetings.  We will follow the experience of Excalibur and give not just individual evaluations but encourage open feedback to speakers from the audience.

At this stage while we are experimenting to see how much interest you have in additional advanced meeting.  This forum is not intended to replace members’ commitment to their home club. However, in due course if there is sufficient interest we may form a new advanced club!

Our first advanced evening:

Date: Wednesday 12 April

Time: 7.15pm for 7.30pm start

Venue: upstairs at the Stokes and Moncreiff, 13 Richmond Road, Twickenham, TW1 3BA (close to Twickenahm Station and a short bus ride from Richmond underground/overground. Car park opposite the pub next to York House Riverside’s usual venue).

Food:  the pub kitchen will be open if you wish to purchase food.

Division L contests on 8 April afternon

All toastmasters are invited to join what are shaping up to be fantastic contests for the Division L titles of International Speech Champion and Evaluation Champion. The contests will be held on Saturday 8 April near Baker Street.

We expect to have eight competitors in each competition so we will be having quantity as well as quality.You will not often get the chance to get such value from the price of your free ticket so please book your ticket for an afternoon of fun and joy.

Winchmore Hill Speakers is a new club in North London meeting on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at The Winchmore 235 Winchmore Hill Rd, N21 1QA, 7.30pm for a prompt 7.45 start.

Please feel free to come along and join us and to pass the word to anyone you know in the area so that they can come too, you can be sure of a warm welcome.

There are two changes to dates our second April meeting falls on Easter Monday so we will be meeting on Monday 24th April and our first May meeting falls on Bank Holiday Monday so we will be meeting in May on 8th and 15th May.

We have a very special meeting on Monday 3rd April when we have the pleasure of welcoming Bob Ferguson, a winner of three UK & Ireland speech championships, who will share his methods of writing and delivering high quality speeches.
