From Paul Carroll, 104 London Debaters
On Tuesday 8 May our debate at 104 London Debaters will be:This House Believes That Cultural Appreciation Is Unfairly Labelled As Cultural Appropriation
Many are offended when people of one culture adopt the cultural artifacts (like dress, music, art or food) of another culture to which they do not belong. They maintain that this is disrespectful and marginalizing to the other culture.
Others point out that throughout history human civilisation has advanced through the exposure of cultures to each other and by people learning--then adopting and adapting what they learn--from other cultures.
What's YOUR opinion? What, for that matter, is your evidence?
104 London Debaters is the UK's first and only Toastmasters club dedicated to debate.
Our cultural appropriation debate is on Tuesday, 8 May, 6:45 gathering for 7:00 gavel, The Grange Rochester Hotel, 69 Vincent Square, SW1P-2PA (entrance on Vane Street). Near Victoria Station and Pimlico Station. Convenient to Vauxhall Station as well.
104 London Debaters meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at The Grange Rochester
